Tasting - District Winery Old Vine Zinfandel

Name: District Winery Old Vine Zinfandel
Variety: 100% Zinfandel
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2012
Price: $34

Winery Review: Big and bold, yet smooth and sensual, this wine was made from 50-year-old vines that produce fruit with high concentration due to very low yields.

My Review:
This wine had a certain perfume quality to it, very fragrant. It was very fruity full of red fruit with notes of cherry, raspberry, and currant. It was also very fruity on the palate as well full of red fruit and red berries. I got hints of cherry and currant with a little oakiness and vanilla. Despite not being sweet there was a sweet component to it which is hard to explain. It had a long finish and was thoroughly enjoyable. It was a very good wine.

Tasting - District Winery Cuvée Noir

The nose on this wine was filled with red fruit mainly cherry with a slight spice note. More spice comes through on the palate with cherry, red currant, green pepper, and tobacco. It was light bodied and had a long finish. This was nice every day drinking wine.

Tasting - Field Recordings PETS Petite Sirah

Name: Field Recordings PETS Petite Sirah
Variety: 100% Petite Sirah
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: 2016
Price: $22

Winery Review: Only 8 barrels of this 100% Petite Sirah bottling were made in total. Despite its name, the Petite Sirah grape yields big, gutsy, structured wines, and this example from Andrew Jones of Field Recordings certainly does this variety justice. Succulent and juicy, this wine has a ton of personality, showing vivid floral aromas, exotic spicebox notes, and blueberry and blackberry jam on the palate.

My Review:
Black licorice, black currant and black fruit in general mix with hints of cocoa and blueberry to craft the nose on this wine. It is fruit forward on the taste with blueberry being the most pronounced with blackberry and licorice following it up. It is slightly hot and has a long finish. This is a very good wine and I enjoyed it very much.

This wine had big, strong aromas of mainly black fruit. I got notes of black currant, raspberry, and licorice with some spice. Overall quite fruity. The taste was smooth with a lot of raspberry, cherry, and red currant. It was also slightly oaky with some black pepper. It was not big and bold like a typical cabernet sauvignon. It was tannic and had a long finish. It was a really nice wine and of good quality.
